No Blood, No Altar Now

With easily one of the best EPs I've heard in a long time, xDisciplex comes back brilliantly from their last album, Imitation of Love.

Though Imitation was quite a piece of work, No Blood, No Altar Now blows all you have ever known about hardcore out of the water. Raspy screams combine with raging guitars and breakdowns to create an immense monster of sound. Much of the music harkens back to the good ol' days of old-school hardcore, but there are many metalcore influences involved in the sound as well.

Songs like "Pray Your Gods" and "So Send I You" are so stinkin' rad that you'll want to start moshing right where you are. The production is very good, better than most. Nothing detracts from the musicianship or quality of the songs, with everything evenly balanced. The weird effect used on the voice last album is gone, leaving you to Dan Quiggle's Volton-esque screams. The bass has been muted down just a bit and doesn't sound quite as beefy as the last album. Still, the mix holds plenty of weight and gave my speakers a run for their money.

If you have already heard xDisciplex, get this album. If you haven't and you want to hear hardcore at its finest, check this album out. It does not disappoint.
