This album would be best described as acoustic blues/funk. It is primarily Dawson on guitar, with some drums, guitars, bass, and even sax thrown in from time to time.
I can tell that this album is a labor of love by someone who really enjoys his music. For an indie release, it's not bad, especially if you like this style of music. It is certainly worth at least downloading some of his mp3s (at

My main criticism of the album is that the tracks aren't that interesting. Some of them (I.E.--"Lazy Laundry Day") would be much better tracks if they weren't so long. There just weren't enough interesting features on this album to hold my attention for the entire disk.
Some of the more interesting tracks on this album include "Leap of Faith" (nice sax solo on this track), "Lay It Down" (there is some really cool minor key stuff going on in this song. At times, the harmonies remind me a little of Randy Thompson), and "I'm Not that Strong." (a very confessional song with just Dawson and his acoustic guitar).
One thing I really like about this album is Dawson's liner notes. He is very straightforward and just tells us what he was doing when he wrote the song. It really gives context as to what the song means. I am especially touched by how confessional he is. There is such a power that comes out of openness and vulnerability, and it is very apparent in this album.
