Wow. This album leaves everything you ever knew about Blindside far behind, choking in the dust of this sophomore album. The improvement of this album over their self-titled debut is mind-blowing. The hooks are more refined, much more theirs, and overall, the songwriting is more cohesive. Instead of the uncomfortable transitions that dotted their first release, Blindside has a new batch of songs that actually hold a flow and transition well from one part to the next.

On this release, the band seems to have turned a deaf ear to everyone who said they had to fit a certain mold. Blindside has gone their own way. Any Korn-esque influences heard on their debut are now gone. Each song is unique and original, a style of their own. The dynamics involved are beautiful. From the sung verses to the gut-wrenching screams, each element plays off the other to create a truly powerful effect.

But as good as this album is, it does have its flaws. There are a select few songs that should not have been included on the album just because…well, they stink. Luckily, there are only two tracks that mar the CD (three, depending on perspective), and that's where the skip button comes into play. To balance out the stinkers, there are many new tracks that will grab you by the ears and slam you to the ground. Songs like "Vow of Silence" and "Where Eye Meets Eye" are awesome examples of musicianship and passion, touched with just a bit of Swedish flavor.

Speaking of which, don't expect your typical Solid State hardcore. These boys hail from Europe, and the music reflects that. But no matter how you look at it, this album will give you a royal bruising, and do it well.

All in all, this is a much more refined and enjoyable presentation from Blindside. A bit far from perfect, but good enough to check out. Just be ready to skip one or two songs.
