This is my first time to hear The Roosevelts, and for the most part, I like what I hear. As a brief introduction, The Roosevelts are a rock & roll band with melodic punk influences. They remind me of a more rock-oriented MxPx (especially on the hidden track).
As for the more specific elements of the band, Noah Curtis' lead vocals are good, though not particularly noteworthy. To their credit, though, the guys are fairly apt at old school harmonizing (as heard on songs like "Sweetheart"). At times, the guitars and bass are great, but at other times, they seem a bit muddy. Overall, the drums are effective and fit well (especially on the more punk songs).
Lyrically, the songs are mostly about girls. Nothing too deep, but there are some occasional remarks about spirituality thrown in the word mix. Sometimes the asides about God work well, but at other moments, it seems like they just threw in the comment to make the album "Christian" enough (I.E. "One and Only"). In this latter case, I would have preferred that they leave the brief Christian mentions out, and instead just shamelessly focus on sappy love songs.
That being said, one song's lyrics rose above the rest--"Friday Nights." It's a great song to listen to when you're reminiscing about the old days, when you had the free time to go cruising around town with the gang.
So if you're still in the high school, Friday night gang (and if you like punk rock with sweet harmonies), you'll probably dig this album. If you're a bit older, I still recommend it, but you might want to give it a listen first before plunking down your cash.
