Bullet Hole Car
By James M. Branum

I have me a Mercury,
a car with a story.
It's beat-up and runs, sorta.

The owner before me,
He drove that old auto
to see that one woman,
the woman he loved.

She left him for another,
but Joe thought that maybe,
maybe he could,
win back her love if she
saw him once more.

So he drove that old Mercury
to see her one night,
and he pulled that old Mercury
into her driveway.

But a shot rang out,
over Joe's head,
so he jumped in that car,
and hightailed it home.

But as that old Mercury
pulled into the street,
another gun shot
rang out through the night.

It hit that old car!
It went through the trunk!
The bullet went through
and got lost inside.

Another shot hit!
It hit that old car.
It shot out the right tire
but missed the gas tank.

Old Joe was mad.
Joe would get even.
He got out his gun
and aimed for her door.

Joe went to jail,
and I got the car.
The story of how,
I'll leave that to you;

To wonder about,
When you see me in traffic,
in my old Mercury
with a hole shot through.
