Bluebonnet Dress
by J. M. Branum
Sunday at church,
I saw you a-new,
for you were wearing
that dress of blue.
It makes me remember,
Hill Country spring day,
out in the fair meadows,
just me and you.
We talked of our past.
We talked of the future.
We looked at the flowers
and breathed in the air.
Bluebonnets and clover,
and yellow sunflowers,
indian blankets,
and white daisies too.
That day is long gone,
and April's now fall.
But I still remember
that day I saw you
loving the flowers
and drinking the sun.
You knew how to live,
like no other one.
Blue is your dress,
just like the bluebonnet,
I kept from that day,
and have with me still.
