Jacob the Rascal – Part 2

Genesis 28:1-9 – Jacob is blessed again before leaving

Issac prays that _____ ___________ would bless Jacob.

Esau went to ____________ to get another wife.

28:10-15 – Jacob in despair, meets God

What was the name of the place where Jacob slept?

Three promises:

1.     God’s promises to  ___________ and ___________ were extended to Jacob.

2.     God promised that Jacob’s descendants would be multiplied and they would someday own the land where he was sleeping.

3.     God promised Jacob that all of the nations of the earth would be blessed through him.

Song #684, verse # 2

Genesis 29:1-20

Jacob falls for _______________.

Gen. 29:21 through ch. 30- Jacob gets more than he bargained for

Jacob is tricked into marrying _______ and ends up working for a total of _____ years for his two wives.

As Paul Harvey would say… Come back next week to hear “The Rest of the Story.”

What can we take from Jacob’s story thus far?

1.     In times of despair, God can appear. In fact, those are the times in our lives where we are most likely to grow in our faith.

2.     We can also see that God performs what He promises. (We’ve only seen a bit of this so far, but already Jacob has had many children through his wives.)

3.     Lastly, while it is good to have a family that honors God, your faith has to be your own faith. Jacob had to discover God for Himself.
